Surgical assistants act as a First Assistant to the surgeon during surgical procedures — mid-level allied healthcare practitioners who provide hemostasis, suturing, retracting, aid in exposure, and other intraoperative functions to assist the surgeon in providing patients with safe surgical procedures.

Kathyann C. Bryant
CSFA, LSAFounder & Lead Surgical Assistant · Licensed Massage Therapist
Kathyann has over 30 years in the operating room. Trained in the US Army as an operating room specialist, her specialties as a surgical assistant include — but are not limited to — general surgery, OB/GYN, plastic & reconstructive surgery, and ortho/spine.
She is certified with the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) as a CSFA, and licensed through the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners (TMB) as a Licensed Surgical Assistant for the past 7 years. Kathyann has lived and worked in the Houston area for over thirty years, and is also licensed with the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation as a Licensed Massage Therapist for the past 21 years.
